Creation Care2017 – Lent as Creation Care

Join us this Lent for a focus on our roles as stewards of God’s Creation.  On Wednesdays during Lent (March 8, 15, 22, 29 and April 5), we will have programs regarding various aspects of environmentalism – Sustainability, Renewable Energies, Environmental Health and more.  Our Wednesday schedule is:

  • 5:30 pm – Holy Eucharist in the Chapel
  • 6:00 pm – Soup-sandwich supper in the Parish Hall
  • 6:30 pm – Lenten Program

 

Programs:

March 8
Doug Baird from Coastal Solar, which does both residential and commercial applications of solar panels, will discuss how solar panels work, where technology is headed, and why this matters in terms of energy conservation.

Lissa Leege, Director of GSU’s Center for Sustainability, speaking on “GSU as a Model of Sustainability,” and also her family’s land preservation project.

March 22
Audrey King from Georgia Power will speak about solar power from the utility’s perspective and what the company’s strategies are on renewable energies. (https://www.georgiapower.com/about-energy/renewables.cshtml)

March 29
Chris Rustin, Assistant Professor in GSU’s Department of Environmental Health Sciences, will address issues of public health related to our care (or lack of care) of the environment.

April 5
Rahn Milligan, with the Research and Conservation Group, part of Georgia’s Soil and Water Conservation Commission, will talk with us about working with farmers, timber companies and agribusiness to protect our waterways and river basins and preventing soil erosion.
